Membrane Filtration as Post-Treatment of Rotating Biological Contactor for Wastewater Treatment

چکیده

A rotating biological contactor (RBC) offers a low energy footprint but suffers from performance instability, making it less popular for domestic wastewater treatment. This paper presents study on an RBC integrated with membrane technology in which filtration was used as post-treatment step (RBC–ME) to achieve enhanced performance. The and RBC–ME systems were operated under different hydraulic retention times (HRTs) of 12, 18, 24, 48 h, the effects HRT effluent filterability assessed. results show that demonstrates superior than standalone RBC. bioreactor achieved 87.9 ± 3.2% chemical oxygen demand (COD), 98.9 1.1% ammonium, 45.2 0.7% total nitrogen (TN), 97.9 0.1% turbidity removals. comparison HRTs showed COD TN removal efficiency highest at 92.4 2.4% 48.6 1.3% efficiencies, respectively. longer also lead better filterability. steady-state permeability increased respectively by 2.4%, 9.5%, 19.1% compared 12 h. Our analysis fouling shows resistance decreased higher HRTs. Overall, offered promising alternative traditional suspended growth processes microbial activity performance, is line requirements sustainable development environment-friendly

Dairy Wastewater Treatment using Three-Stage Rotating Biological Contactor (NRBC)

Dairy wastewater is enriched in organic matter (about 45-72 g/l, COD) and also contains biodegradable carbohydrates. A three-stage system, NRBC was fabricated as a bench scale unit for lab experiments, to remove organic carbon from the whey. The fabricated NRBC had several advantages, such as quick start-up, high biomass concentration and was additionally able to handle high organic loading rat...

Physico-Chemical and Biological Treatment of Olive Mill Wastewater by Rotating Biological Contactor (RBC) Reactors

The removal performance of total poly phenols and orthodiphenols (o-diphenols) content in olive mill waste (OMW) was investigated with a three stages cross flow laboratory scale rotating biological contactor (RBC) in the present study. Due to high COD and other pollutant in the original OMW, physico-chemical treatment was effected for COD and other pollutant reduction prior to biological tr...

Biodegradability of oily wastewater using rotating biological contactor combined with an external membrane

BACKGROUND A novel implementation of a hybrid membrane bioreactor (HMBR) has been studied in this paper. It is utilized as combination of rotating biological contractor (RBC) and an external membrane, as a new biological system for oily wastewater treatment. METHODS Chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) as factors of Biodegradability has been evaluated. They are b...
